Yoga Alliance is an optional registration body in the yoga industry that aims to set standards for yoga teacher training. They offer different levels of registration for schools and teachers, based on training and adherence to ethical standards. Their goal is to promote safe and inclusive yoga practice.
YogaAlliance.org is the only Yoga Alliance MVP is accredited with.
Caveat: It is not mandatory to register with Yoga Alliance as a Yoga Teacher. Being certified through your yoga school determines your ability to teach and offer yoga. |

Temporary Online Provision
In March 2020 Yoga Alliance established a temporary Online Provision to allow Yoga Teacher Trainings to be facilitated fully online.
Online Yoga Teacher Trainings
During the Temporary Online Provision, Yoga Alliance requires Online Yoga Teacher Trainings to be facilitated in synchronous and asynchronous segments.
Even prior to these provisional requirements from Yoga Alliance, My Vinyasa Practice has ensured continuous synchronous training through Weekend Lectures and a plethora of weekly Office Hours.
- 200-hour Online YTT: requires 48 hours of synchronous training participation
- 300-hour Online YTT: requires 60 hours of synchronous training participation
MVP offers a variety of synchronous learning opportunities across multiple timezones, including Weekly Office Hours, Weekend lectures, 1:1 Meetings with Lead Trainers and Peer Support, Support & Mentorship Sessions with Peer Support, Practice Teaching, Facilitated Learning Tracks, the MVP Online Studio, and other events. (Students are not required to join any specific live offering.)
Elevated RYS Standards
Yoga Alliance informed that Elevated Standards that allow for permanent online facilitation of teacher trainings were to be released in February 2022, but have since been delayed. Elevated RYS Standards are to be implemented prior to December 31st, 2023 and My Vinyasa Practice will ensure continuous accreditation of all our trainings.
Yoga Teacher Training
Yoga Alliance trademarked the term "Registered Yoga Teacher". Upon successfully being certified as a 200-hour Yoga Teacher, you may decide to register with Yoga Alliance. Click here to reference Yoga Alliance's website, where yearly pricing and registration fees are broken down, their Code of Conduct is available for reference, and their registration requirements are listed.
Yoga Teacher Trainings are facilitated by an RYS (Registered Yoga School). Every RYS has a set group of Lead Trainers who are certified on the ERYT-200 or ERYT-500 level.
Caveat: If you completed MVP's 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training, you have received a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certificate and a 300-hour Yoga Teacher Certificate and will register these separately. Start by registering your 200-hour Certificate, and then upgrade to your 500-hour Certificate. |

When I registered for the online 300 hr YTT with MVP in 2022, we needed to finish our curriculum by December 31, 2023 for YA to accept it. Has this changed? I've looked on the YA website and MVP, and it's not totally clear to me that it has been extended or if it is now a permanent change that it is acceptable to get YTT online. I just want to make sure of the time I have, and/or if there's anything extra I need to do to fulfill any new requirements or changes. Thanks! Tifany
Hi Tifany! Thank you for reaching out! Yoga Alliance has removed all deadlines for students currently enrolled in an online training. You do not need to complete your course by the end of this year.
Thank you!
if you complete the 300 YTT program with MVP, without first completing a 200 YTT program, do you register for the 200 RYT with Yoga alliance since you technically dont have 500 hours for the 500 RYT?
Hi Jessica! Thank yo for reaching out! You will need to complete your 200hr YTT first in order to register with Yoga Alliance. The 200hr YTT s the course that certifies you to teach yoga, and the 300hr YTT is the advanced course. Once you have complete the 200hr and then the 300hr, you are eligible to become an RYT500 with Yoga Alliance.
Please feel free to reach out to Peer Support at peersupport@myvinyasapractice.com if you have any additional questions!
